This painting of the character Choon-Hee (춘희), meaning Spring girl, is inspired by the South Korean actress Kim Yoo-jung (김유정) and I have seen her in several roles, “Love in the Moonlight” as Hong Ra-on - a girl who was raised as a boy and eventually became a eunuch of the Crown Prince of Joseon, “Clean with Passion for Now”, based on the webtoon of the same name. She played an employee at a cleaning company who doesn't care about dirtiness and more recently “Backstreet Rookie”, alongside Ji Chang-wook, based on a webtoon of the same name and played the role of a former high school troublemaker who becomes a part-time employee at a convenience store. All of which showcase her endearing personality and sense of humor which I hope comes across in this piece.
“Is it wrong to confess for someone you cannot be with? A proper farewell is as sincere as love, who knows if the memory of being loved gives you the strength to live on.” -Love in the Moonlight
Painting style
This painting is a mixed media composite with an acrylic background that gives a nice contrast to the smoother airbrushed face and watercolour mid-details. Strong use of pencil hatching on the hair gives it life and a sense of movement, making it look more realistic. Airbrushing and texture shading on the face allows for more detail, as well as letting pencil sketch elements bleed through to give added depth and definition.
